Yodel, now owned by Shift, has announced plans to close its national sortation and transport centre in Shaw, Greater Manchester. The site was originally opened for Littlewoods in 1979 and was then a major employer in the area. Around 230 current jobs are at risk, and Usdaw is working with Yodel to arrive at the best possible outcome for those affected.
Yodel CEO Mike Hancox said,: “Following a comprehensive strategic review of our operations we have taken the difficult decision to propose to close our national sortation and transport centre located in Shaw, Great Manchester.
“To meet the demand for growing capacity and evolving parcel types with different sortation needs, we continue to invest in infrastructure and technology across our network, including our core Wednesbury and Hatfield sortation centres.”
