Dyson Singapore move causes ripples

Not only has Dyson announced that it is to locate its proposed electric car manufacturing plant in Singapore, along with a significant head office operation, but it is now set to outsource around 100 back office jobs from its UK HQ to India and the Czech Republic. This follows its announcements last July that around 300 jobs were to go from its Malmesbury, Wiltshire offices, principally in IT and finance functions, due to a restructuring exercise. This resulted in 150 UK redundancies and saw founder Sir James Dyson, a strong Brexit supporter, accused of hypocrisy at a time when Dyson was widely expected to create more UK jobs.

The business has since shaken off speculation that further UK jobs are at risk due to its plans to invest heavily in Singapore,  saying that only two UK based staff are being transferred to Singapore and that other UK based jobs will be secure even given that 96 per cent of Dyson’s sales come from international markets.
