Further retail job losses announced

Wilko is the latest retailer to make a significant number of its staff redundant following a consultation period. The business has accepted over one thousand applications for redundancy from store staff around the country and has also promoted or redeployed more than 2600 other store staff. The retailer which suffered an 80 per cent reduction in its profits last year first announced its plans to retrench in August as it, along with many other retailers in the UK face a struggle to compete in an increasingly difficult market.
