Thorntons changes strategy – returns to profit

Focus on its wholesale offering to supermarkets, together
with a programme of closures of underperforming stores, and a revamping of the
remaining 280 outlets contributed towards Thorntons’ first sales increase over
the Christmas trading quarter in eight years. First half sales reached £123.7
million at the business which will be trimming its retail chain further during
2014.
