The turnaround at Thorntons appears to be taking effect with
sales for the half-year to 28th January up 2.9 percent to £133.7 million.
Pretax at the confectionery retailer profit jumped 71 percent from £3.1 million
to £5.3 million thanks to market share gained in the commercial market.
However, Thorntons Direct sales declined by 11.9 percent to £5.9 million due to
the late deployment of its new website and “operational issues” in the peak
selling period, which meant customers didn’t benefit from the site’s full
functionality.
