Market commentators are speculating that a “mystery” Chinese buyer is expressing interest in acquiring the Hobbs fashion business from 3i – which 3i has not exactly denied. There is no shortage of interest in higher end UK brands coming from wealthy Chinese conglomerates and the Hobbs business is certainly ripe for further development in overseas markets. Hobbs recorded sales of £122 million in the year to January 2013.
