Allan Leighton has accepted the appointment of chairman for the Co-operative Group. He will be the first independent non-executive for the troubled group and takes on the role with a pledge to donate the salary offered to him to the Co-operative Foundation, a charitable fund for young people. Leighton has previously held top positions at Asda and Royal Mail and is currently serving the remainder of his term as CEO at Pandora which he is leaving to take up the Co-operative role.
