Thompson & Morgan’s open days proved to be a victim to their success and had to be brought to an end in 2011 when more than 5000 visitors converged on its summer trial grounds over two days. The site simply couldn’t cope safely with the crowds. “Our catalogues and online listings show off the T&M range perfectly, but there’s nothing like the chance of seeing everything at its peak of summer growth before your eyes,” commented Michael Perry, new product development manager at Thompson & Morgan.
Step in Jimmy’s Farm, of TV fame. Also based on the outskirts of Ipswich, and established as a visitor attraction in its own right with parking for cars and coaches, it can handle thousands of visitors and is open daily to the public from 1st July through to September. A brand new Thompson & Morgan garden has been built at Jimmy’s Farm to showcase the company’s technical growing trials. Over 1000 containers will be on display planted with existing customer favourites as well as soon-to-launch exclusives from its 2016 seed and plant range. Thompson & Morgan fruit and vegetables will be given special focus in a series of square metre growing beds.
Farm owner Jimmy Doherty said “I am so excited that Thompson & Morgan are bringing their show gardens to the farm. Growing is a big part of what we do here and we hope it’ll inspire many gardeners.”
