Online sales at Laura Ashley reached £73.5 million to its 30 June year end in a period which saw it post total sales of £400.9 million. A change to the retailer’s reporting period meant that the aforementioned totals were for a 74 week period meaning that like for like sales were up by 4.1 per cent. The strongest performing categories were home accessories and furniture with fashion sales showing a like for like drop of 2.2 per cent. Laura Ashley had closed 18 of its stores during the period whilst opening five new ones bringing its store count to 192. It also opened two concessions within House of Fraser stores in March. Further concessions are being considered in the current year.
In addition, the brand commences operations in China this Autumn with a new website on Tmall as well as a fashion offering within the first House of Fraser store in Nanjing, China. The retailer is keen to develop its presence in China and is seeking a local franchise partner.
