AS Watson is planning to open 88 new UK stores for its high street fascias Superdrug, the Perfume Shop and Savers. 40 of the new stores are for Superdrug which achieved £1.2 billion sales in its most recently posted results, boosted by 60 per cent growth in online demand. 13 new Perfume Shop and 35 will open for Savers.
Elsewhere Lidl has announced plans to open “at least one shop a week” in the UK as part of its £1.45 billion new investment. The business is understood to already have locations agreed for around 60 of its new stores which will take the retailer into new areas. Unlike other supermarket chains, Lidl says it has no plans to develop an online offer however it is also targeting the US market where it is planning 100 stores.
