London-based spectacle and sunglasses manufacturer and retailer, Cubitts, has outsourced key parts of its UK supply chain to Berkshire-based Walker Logistics. Founded in 2012, Cubitts produces a range of stylish men’s and women’s frames which it retails from outlets in some of the capital’s most fashionable locations and via its website. With demand for Cubitts’ frames growing significantly, the company needed a dedicated storage resource and the supply chain expertise that a logistics specialist could provide and, after a competitive tender, appointed Walker.
Walker will initially be handling two parts of the supply chain; after receiving inbound product from the Far East, Walker will replenish cases and accessories to Cubitts’ London shops in either component form or as complete kits that have been processed through Walker’s specialist re-work division.Walker’s value-added and returns management expertise was a significant factor in the company winning the contract as, going forward, Walker will support the innovative ‘Home Try On’ service that Cubitts offers to its customers. The ‘Home Try On’ service allows Cubitts’ internet clients to trial four spectacle frames at home for a week. The frames are picked and packed within a specially designed kit and sent direct to the customer’s address. Then, hopefully, the customer places an order for his or her preferred glasses and returns all four ‘trial’ frames to Cubitts.
William Walker, sales director of Walker Logistics, commented: “Cubitts’ free ‘Home Try On’ facility means that they need a logistics partner with a strong track record of managing value-added services and returns. We are very pleased to be working with Cubitts. We beat off competition from a number of different logistics operators in the industry to win the business, which is tremendous testimony to the quality of our service.”
