Government targets marketplace VAT avoidance

The UK government is pressuring Amazon and eBay to bring overseas sellers into line when selling in the UK. It is insisting that both of the marketplace operators should be ensuring that all commercial sellers comply by charging VAT on taxable items and then remitting the tax collected to HMRC.  The issue of unfair competition is causing deep concern to online sellers who are trading lawfully as they are seeing their prices undercut by those who are not accounting for VAT.
