DPD introduces new packages for drivers

DPD, which recently announced it was appointing 1000 extra drivers to meet demand for weekend deliveries, has responded to mounting pressures to offer its drivers a choice in their work contract terms. The firm says it will now pay all drivers a minimum of the Real Living Wage whilst offering them the choice of being employed, being a self-employed worker, or a self employed franchisee.

The changes are being introduced from July 2nd with drivers being briefed on their options from this month. The contract aims to see drivers earn an average of £28,800 per annum for a five day week and will entitle those choosing to be employed to have 28 days paid holiday, pension and sick pay entitlements. Self employed drivers will receive at least the equivalent of the Real Living Wage. The company is also scrapping its breach system for self-employed drivers and will adopt other methods to monitor service delivery and contract performance.
