Word has it that Wesfarmers, the Australian parent company of Bunnings, is close to accepting an offer for the Homebase chain it acquired in 2016 along with the 24 UK Homebase stores it had re-branded to Bunnings. This will bring to an end a prolonged period of uncertainty for the 11,000 employees of the business. It is understood that Alteri Investors and Hilco are amongst the front-runners. However , whichever firm succeeds in acquiring the chain is likely to embark on a store closure programme to try to bring the business back into profitable operation.
