The Communication Workers Union (CWU) says that a majority of its members have voted in favour of taking industrial action against Royal Mail in a dispute over working conditions, job security and alleged bullying. In a ballot the CWU said that 97.1 per cent voted in the affirmative from a turnout of over 75 per cent of its c110,000 members.
The vote could lead to national strikes timed to disrupt deliveries during the business-critical peak Christmas period and will, market watchers say, simply drive more packet and small parcel business to Royal Mail’s competitors .
