Following speculation that Philip Day is entertaining offers for some of its more recent brand acquisitions, it now transpires that both the Peacocks and Edinburgh Woollen Mill stores chains are being marketed as going concerns. FRP has been appointed to manage the process and is understood to be sounding out prospective buyers. The two chains operate from a total of 900 stores and employ around 7000 staff.
The business had placed more than 20,000 of its UK head office and store staff on furlough and since lockdown measures eased it is understood that many staff remain furloughed, with a significant number of stores remaining closed.
