In 2026 personal AI agents will transform the way customers browse

Kishore Krishnamurthy, Chief Strategy Officer at Conviva:

“In 2026, AI will shift from a blunt tool for efficiency to personal agents that act on behalf of consumers. These agents won’t just retrieve information – they’ll perform tasks, transact, and decide what’s worthy of a customer’s attention. The agent-readiness of digital storefronts will therefore emerge as the next competitive frontier.

Companies will need to design digital experiences that agents can interpret, trust, and act on – not just ones that look good to humans. As this takes hold, apps will decline in importance, as consumers have less incentive to use multiple services. Instead, they will rely on one personal agent that browses offerings on their behalf and reports back with recommendations. Websites will effectively become machine-facing storefronts, where accuracy and transparency matter more than design. This will see human visits reduced, but they will carry much higher purchase intent, since the groundwork of research and evaluation will have already been done by agents.”
