Financial Times has a summary of yesterday’s pre-Budget
report. Among the key points for businesses: VAT will return to
17.5 percent on 1st January, and the 2010 corporation tax rate
for small businesses will remain unchanged. And the
Independent notes that “the HM Revenue & Customs
Business payment support service – which allows businesses in
trouble to delay tax payments – will continue ‘for as long as
necessary’”. -
N Brown workers who are members of labour
union Usdaw voted to reject a pay freeze for 2010; a vote on
whether to strike could take place next week. An N Brown
spokesperson, however, told the
Manchester Evening News that if workers were to strike, it
would not affect Christmas orders, as any work action could not
legally be implemented until the new year. - Here’s an example of a company adjusting to changing consumer
trends: Carrier Bag Shop, a supplier of plastic
and paper packaging, has launched a spin-off website,
CottonBagShop.co.uk, specialising in-duh-cotton
bags and other eco-friendly packaging.
