News roundup—Findel financials, January retail sales

  • For the 39 weeks ended 1st January, sales from continuing
operations within Findel’s home shopping division were up
10 percent from the previous year. Among specific brands,
sports-gear etailer Kitbag enjoyed a jump in sales of more
than 35 percent, though “trading conditions in
    Confetti and IWantOneofThose.com remain
challenging,” according to a statement. Sales within the
education supplies division fell by 12 percent, while sales
within the healthcare group rose 1 percent.
  • Ouch: “UK high-street sales fell at their sharpest
annual rate for five months in January, according to a survey by
the CBI business group,” reports the BBC.
The VAT increase and frigid weather received much of the blame.
