Euro secret-sales sites establish UK foothold

France-based secret-sales website Vente-Privee and Germany-based
Brands4friends.de both announced plans to further grow their UK
business.

Vente-Privee, which sells fashion, food, cars and property,
reported a turnover of £610 million ($932.9 million) for
2009, a rise of 33 percent on the previous year. For 2010,
Vente-Privee is predicting a growth of 25 percent, and a turnover
of £763 million ($1.17 billion).

Although Vente-Privee generates 85 percent of turnover in its
home market, it also has a presence in the UK, Germany, Spain,
and Italy. It has 9.7 million European members in total, of whom
300,000 are UK-based-up 200 percent from this time last year. The
UK business is one of Vente-Privee’s star performers in terms of
growth, and is predicted to deliver a sales increase of 167
percent this year and reach turnover of £7.2 million.

In the rest of Europe, Vente-Privee reports that the German
business doubled turnover to £38 million ($58.3 million) in
2009. Sales in Spain rose by 95 percent to £40 million
($61.3 million), and Italy delivered sales of approximately
£8.8 million ($13.5 million). To further facilitate growth
in Italy, Vente-Privee is planning to open an office in Milan
later this year.

As part of its planned international expansion, Germany-based
online private shopping club Brands4friends.de has entered the UK
following a “significant investment” in London-based
rival Secretsales.com. Founded in September 2007, Brands4friends
now has annual revenues of €80 million (£70.6 million)
and 2.5 million German members.
