W Howard Lester, the chairman emeritus of US cataloguer/retailer
Williams-Sonoma, has died aged 75. Lester bought
the business in 1978, when it was just a small kitchenware
company. He is credited for transforming the firm into an
international, multichannel retailer with 600 stores, seven
catalogues, and more than $3.4 billion in sales.
Online retailer PetSupermarket.co.uk has begun
selling own-brand products by launching a pet-food range under
its Milburns label. Initially to be sold on the
PetSupermarket website, the company hopes to expand distribution
to specialist pet supplies channels and supermarkets, reports the
North East Business Guide.
In a similar move to
Jack Wills‘ JWunsigned website, Scottish
fashion brand Lyle & Scott has launched “Curated
by Lyle & Scott”, a series of four gigs taking place at a London
music venue. According to Jess Pugh, Lyle & Scott’s marketing
manager, the project “demonstrates our desire to support
emerging talent within the music industry in the UK and provide a
showcase for young bands”. Customers interested can
purchase tickets from the Lyle & Scott website.
Bottega Verde, a leading Italian retailer of
natural beauty products, has opened up a US online store as part
of its planned expansion, writes the Independent. It had begun its European
expansion in 2009 and currently has online stores in the UK,
Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, and Spain amongst
others.
