Italy-based online retailer Yoox is to launch a Chinese version
of its apparel website TheCorner.com by the end of 2011. The
launch will be followed by the opening of Yoox.com in China in
2012. To manage the venture, Yoox has set up an office in
Shanghai equipped with a photographic studio and digital
production capabilities. It will also have a local team to deal
with technology, buying and merchandising, communication and
marketing, content management, and customer care.
The move follows Yoox’s recent expansion to Russia, where it
opened a localised website on 17th September. Yoox sees most of
its sales come from Europe, with the European market representing
almost three-quarters of the revenues. Yoox is also active in
Japan and north America, where it says sales have
“improved” in the first nine months of the
year.
