The Independent writes that Royal Mail workers
will vote next week on an emergency resolution that could lead to
a national postal strike. The resolution, to be discussed at the
Communications Workers Union annual conference in Bournemouth, is
likely to set out a series of objections to Royal Mail’s latest
modernisation plans and oppose the privatisation of the postal
carrier.
Also from the Independent, sales and profits at department
store chain House of Fraser are up in the year
to 29th January. Earnings rose 44 percent to £85.7 million,
while sales grew 2.3 percent to £1.1 billion. Net debt also
reduced to £161 million. In an accompanying statement, House
of Fraser said it had issued a £250 million bond to further
restructure its debt and free up cashflow.
