The Hut mulls offshoring

Multititle etailer The Hut Group is considering offshoring jobs
to facilitate its future growth.

According to reports, the Hut Group’s board is considering three
options, among them: to stay at the current Northwich base if
improvements are made to infrastructure; the second option is to
relocate to either Manchester or Birmingham; while the third
option is to relocate senior roles to larger cities and outsource
operational roles overseas. Although it’s understood that the Hut
would prefer to keep jobs in the UK, offshoring 300 jobs–rising
to 700 within two years–could “save millions of
pounds” according to reports.

The Hut Group launched its first website in 2004 and now operates
15 individually branded websites across product categories
including beauty, sports nutrition, apparel, gifts and
accessories. In the six months to 30th June 2012, the Hut’s
websites, including Lookfantastic.com and MyProtein.com,
delivered revenues £66.2 million ($105.8 million), a rise of
54 percent. Earnings also soared, from £300,000 ($480,000)
in the first half of 2011 to £4 million ($6.4 million).

During the half-year, the Hut launched an internal payment
gateway integrated with additional international payment options
in support of international sales growth. It currently generates
at least 35 percent sales outside the UK.
