Amazon backtracks, will accept UK Visa credit cards

Amazon has confirmed that it will accept Visa credit cards going forward, having previously banned their use by UK customers. In a further move, a draconian surcharge Amazon had imposed on customers in Australia and Singapore for using their Visa credit cards is to cease from 17th February.

The online giant had said last year that the cost of processing payments was an obstacle to it providing the best prices for customers.

Following Brexit, Visa had sought to charge Amazon 1.5 per cent for UK credit card transactions, as against the 0.3 per cent cap set for EU countries. It has not been revealed what charge has been agreed for processing UK Visa card payments going forward.
