A second Amazon retail store, this time in San Diego, will open this summer to join the first one opened last June in Seattle. Amazon’s move into bricks & mortar has been met with dismay by independent booksellers, many of which have struggled to retain customers against the giant. With extended services being developed for Amazon Prime members, the online giant has said that it will open further stores, potentially extending into other merchandise lines. A recent Morgan Stanley report put Amazon in number two position in clothing sales (against Walmart in first place) and has market watchers speculating that the business could become a key presence in the nation’s shopping malls.
