ATG acquires Lowe Alpine and plans UK and European relaunch

ATG Brands & Data Limited has completed the purchase of the Lowe Alpine brand’s intellectual property from Equip Outdoor Technologies, covering its trademark, logo and associated brand assets.

It is an intellectual property sale. No stock, dedicated employees or premises transfer from Equip, and the price was not disclosed.

ATG is an apparel and brand business headquartered in Hangzhou, China, with more than 30 years’ experience across design, manufacturing, sourcing, retail and international brand development.

Relaunch plans

ATG says Lowe Alpine will focus on hillwalking and trekking. The first range will prioritise multi-day trekking packs and day packs, alongside hydration packs, waist bags and lifestyle essentials.

John B Gearing, principal of Global Sports Advisory, advised ATG on the deal. He will lead the relaunch across the UK and Europe as operating partner of Lowe Alpine Europe. He was previously managing director of sportswear at VF Corporation, where his brands included Timberland, Nautica, Eastpak and Napapijri. He was also a founding executive of Kontoor Brands and held senior roles at Adidas.

Gearing said: “Our ambition is simple: we want to create dependable, well-designed products for people who love the outdoors.”

Background

The brothers Mike, Greg and Jeff Lowe founded Lowe Alpine in Utah in 1967. Derbyshire-based Equip, which also owns the outdoor brand Rab, bought it in 2011. Equip said its strategic focus is now on the global growth of Rab.
