Birchbox, a marketer of subscription-based beauty boxes
containing samples of cosmetics and grooming products, is making
a push into Europe via the acquisition of France-based
JolieBox.
Birchbox’s retail platform, which started with personalised
monthly beauty sample subscription boxes, also features a
handpicked online shop and expert editorial content. The
acquisition of JolieBox and its business units in France, Spain
and the UK extends Birchbox’s current brand partners to more than
400 internationally.
Commenting on the acquisition, Katia Beauchamp, Birchbox’s
cofounder, said, “JolieBox, with their like-minded team and brand
ethos, is the absolute perfect partner to build relationships
with new customers and brand partners internationally while
simultaneously improving distribution as we scale.”
JolieBox was founded in Paris in June 2011 by Quentin Vacher and
Mathilde Lacombe. After raising their first funding round with
European venture capital firm Alven Capital, the duo expanded
JolieBox to the UK and Spain. Today it collaborates with more
than 200 French and international cosmetic brands such as
Lancme, Yves Saint Laurent, L’Occitane, Bourjois, and
L’Oreal.
