Tough trading on the high street has claimed another victim
with video rentals chain Blockbuster appointing Deloitte as administrators.
Blockbuster blamed increased competition from online rivals and the shift to
digital streaming of games and movies for its demise. Blockbuster is
headquartered in Uxbridge, with 528 stores across the UK employing 4,190 staff.
The administrators say the core of the company is still profitable and it will
continue to trade as normal while a buyer is sought for the business.
