Bonmarche has moved to close certain of its stores which have been under-performing. This includes its Bedminster Bristol branch which closed earlier this month. The retailer is also looking to shed around 140 store assistant jobs and has entered a consultation process with affected employees, whilst also seeking to introduce a requirement for staff to work at stores within a 25 mile radius to maintain cover. Staff are understood not to be willing to cover the cost of travelling greater distances than they do currently and this may well hamper the retailer’s plans to reduce overheads.
