End of an era as Prinovis shuts gravure plants

Bertelsmann has announced that it is to close its Hamburg gravure plant by the end of January next year. This follows its confirmation in November ’22 that it was set to close down its Liverpool site by June this year. It has already shuttered a plant in Dresden.

The business says that the decline in the European gravure market has continued as catalogue and magazine publishers have cut volumes due to rising paper prices and stock shortages. In the UK, the additional disruption caused by the series of Royal Mail strikes had a major impact on peak sales for catalogue marketers.
