Online marketplace Etsy has appointed Mike Fisher as its chief technology officer. He brings over 20 years experience to the role and will report to CEO Josh Silverman. As CTO he will be responsible for evolving Etsy’s technology strategy as well as scaling its IT systems and infrastructure. Etsy has not been without its problems during the past 12 months which have forced the business to cut 230 jobs. Both sellers and customers have been reported to have found that the once quirky marketplace has become too corporate since it went public two years ago and it now also faces competition in its niche from Handmade with Amazon.
