Foot Locker has hired influential LA designer Melody Ehsani as creative director of its women’s business.
Ehsani (left) founded her streetwear brand ME, which specialises in jewellery, footwear and clothing, in 2008. Since then, she’s collaborated with celebrity names like Michelle Obama, Lauryn Hill and Wu-Tang Clan among others, and was one of the first female collaborators on Nike’s Jordan Brand.
She’s also worked with Foot Locker before. In December 2020, Ehsani designed an exclusive capsule collection of basketball-inspired items for its “12 Days of Greatness” holiday campaign.
Foot Locker says that the appointment will give Ehsani a longer-term platform to reach consumers across the world. While she, in turn, will help ‘amplify’ the Foot Locker brand as a streetwear leader to female consumers, through content and product development.
Ehsani will be designing quarterly apparel capsule collections, as well as curate an on-going selection of Nike and Jordan products. With the first capsule collection available in the Summer in-store and online.
Patricia Respress, vice president and DMM women’s footwear and apparel at Foot Locker, said: “Melody Ehsani brings authenticity and years of creative leadership to the industry. Her diverse background of streetwear knowledge will help elevate our brand and expand our product offering, while driving real cultural impact within our women’s community.”
Melody Ehsani added: “Growing up, Foot Locker stores were a staple of my cultural landscape. I am truly honored to become the first Creative Director for Foot Locker’s women’s business and for the opportunity to help shape and build upon the impact of their brand on a global scale. I look forward to bringing my set of experiences to the table – not just as a designer, but as a longtime customer.”
