Following the launch of its UK online shop in September 2010,
Sweden-based apparel retailer H&M says it will enter the USA with
an ecommerce website by the beginning of 2012. In a statement,
chief executive Karl-Johan Persson said the business was also
working on relaunching its existing online shops, with an
improved shopping experience and better functionality. The
addition of an ecommerce store for the US will take H&M’s
catalogue and online-sales presence to nine countries: Sweden,
Norway, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, the
UK, and USA. The ultimate aim, according to the statement, is to
“offer online and catalogue sales in all H&M markets in the
future”. Overall, the company sees China, the UK and USA as
its largest expansion markets for 2011.
