Ethical fashion brand, Howies, has been acquired by Timberland
for an undisclosed sum. On the acquisition, David Hieatt, Howies’
co-founder, shared his thoughts on the website’s community pages.
He said that the business was “growing like heck”,
they had ploughed all their savings into the business and had
re-mortgaged their house twice and whilst they had received some
funding through Finance Wales, any further venture capital would
have “put too much pressure on us to grow and maybe force
us into cutting corners”. On Timberland, he commented that
it felt right from the very first phone call, “We had to
pick our partner very carefully indeed. Like any important
decision in life, it comes down to does it this feel right. If it
does, then go do it.” Howies will continue to be led by its
local management team in Cardigan Bay.
