Management buy-in at Whistles

Management buy-in at Whistles

Former Topshop brand director Jane Shepherdson has concluded a
deal with Baugur to buy into women’s fashion retailer Whistles,
which is currently part of Mosaic Fashions.

Shepherdson, who is credited with revolutionising Topshop,
becomes CEO and is joined by Keith Wilks as finance director and
Jo Farrelly as marketing director. Both Wilks and Farrelly worked
with Shepherdson at Topshop.

Whistles will be separated from Mosaic through an acquisition by
a newly formed company in which Shepherdson and her team will
have part-ownership, Baugur will be the lead shareholder, and
Icelandic bank Glitnir is also an investor.

Whistles was launched in 1976 by Lucille Lewin as a designer
boutique. In 2002 it was acquired by Karen Millen, which is now
part of Mosaic. As of October 2007, Whistles was trading from 34
standalone stores and 36 concessions in the UK and Ireland, with
seven international franchise stores and one international
company-owned store.
