MedicAnimal selects Computop for international payment processing

MedicAnimal,
the London-based online pet healthcare retailer, which sells pet
prescription medicines, food and accessories across Europe, will use the
Computop Paygate 6.0 platform to underpin the payments for its +£70
million business which trades in the UK, France, Germany, The Netherlands and
Spain.

“In the past, we did all our
payment collection with various different providers,” explained Michael Wall,
financial director of MedicAnimal. “But in 2012 we elected to put all our
brands onto one eCommerce platform for which we selected hybris software. Prior to this, we
had leveraged various providers for our payment collection, but with our new
eCommerce platform in place, we needed a provider who was completely familiar
with hybris and which could seamlessly integrate with it.”

In addition to this, and due
to its expansion into wider European markets, MedicAnimal required a payment
provider which could handle a variety of payments – including cards, PayPal,
differing types of bank transfers and eWallets – across the whole continent
with the experience necessary to handle the cultural and legal differences per
market. As one of the first payment gateways working with hybris software, an
SAP company and the world’s fastest-growing commerce platform provider, and
with its proven track record in the European and global markets, Computop was a
very natural decision for MedicAnimal.

“The best payment gateway is
one that you don’t have to think about very much because it all works and it
offers a strictly secured payment solution for our customers,” Wall continued.
“As with all online businesses, the payment part of the process is really
important for us and having a payment provider that is completely reliable is
crucial.”

As well as providing a high
level of reliability, Computop also introduced MedicAnimal to a number of new
payment methods. “By adding payment methods to the business, we’ve been able to
reach a broader group of customers than we’ve previously been able to connect
with and, in doing so, have further strengthened our revenue stream.”

“Despite the low risk nature of eCommerce,
the confidence needed to expand into new markets comes with knowledge and
experience,” commented Ralf Gladis, CEO of Computop. “It’s essential that
online retailers, when expanding into new markets adopt local language, local
culture and behaviours, local currency and local payment methods. MedicAnimal
is a very exciting retailer who understands these nuances and whose focused
approach per market is reaping its rewards.”
