Monsoon Accessorize, Electrocomponents make changes to global freight contracts

While Monsoon Accessorize and Electrocomponents don’t, on the
face of it, appear to have much in common, both share the aim of
improving their global freight arrangements with the announcement
of recent deals.

Electronics and maintenance products distributor
Electrocomponents, which operates global brand RS Components, has
signed a number of new global freight contracts to consolidate
its freight spend with fewer carriers and allow a more integrated
approach to servicing its worldwide customer base.
Electrocomponents operates in 32 countries and distributors in a
further 37 countries. More than 70 percent of its revenues are
now accounted for by markets outside of the UK and its
international operations include 17 distribution centres across
the world.

The tender process is part of an ongoing strategy to enhance
Electrocomponents’ customer offer through its global operating
model. Previously, Electrocomponents had over 60 contracts with
more than 20 different freight providers. It has now changed
provider on 11 of these contracts to increase engagement with
global carriers that can provide a complete service.

As part of its plans to extend its international reach and
develop its online presence, apparel and accessories retailer
Monsoon Accessorize has chosen a new provider to manage its
global sea and airfreight operations from May 2013.
It selected Allport Cargo Services following an intensive tender
process to ensure that it appointed a partner that could manage
its worldwide operations, which include more than 1,000 stores in
74 markets.

Monsoon recently confirmed that John Browett, the former Apple
retail boss, has joined the business as chief executive,
responsible for the company’s worldwide operations.
