Yet another British business has opted to cancel Spring/Summer stock orders with its suppliers at very short notice. A statement from N Brown Group’s JD Williams saying that its ‘priority is to ensure it can continue to serve its customers whilst protecting its colleagues’ seems to be avoiding the fact that it has decided to pass the buck for its poor trading performance onto its suppliers. Whilst it is true that other clothing retail businesses are also cancelling orders, some at least have the good grace to help support their suppliers’ losses, whilst others assume that they are powerful enough not to need to take care of those in their supply chains, nor of their reputations.
