Struggling entertainment products retailer HMV
is considering a £35 million bid for its book-store chain
Waterstone’s by Alexander Mamut, who owns 6
percent of HMV group. The Guardian also reports that HMV is considering
a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) “which would release
HMV from rent payments on its shops”.
Courier firm Yodel is set to close at least 60
depots with a potential loss of 1,500 jobs, reports the Guardian. According to the article, the cuts
come as the business looks to close locations where it operates
more than one warehouse-a result of last year’s merger between
DHL Express and Home Delivery Network, which created Yodel.
Turnover at Bettys & Taylors, a confectioner,
tea and coffee brand, and tea room owner, has broken the
£100 million mark for the first time. Profits before tax
also rose, from £7.7 million to £9.4 million for the
year ended October 11, reports the Yorkshire Business Desk.
According to the Independent, like-for-like sales for the year
to April 2011 at apparel retailer Joules are up
27 percent on last year.

Tesco acquired the majority stake in
Blinkbox, a UK-based movie streaming service.
The move, said a Tesco statement, will help position the
supermarket giant “for the next stage in the
internet-driven revolution in home entertainment”.
