Apparel retailer Joules has opened a legal case
against Musto over copyright infringement. Musto
is alleged to have copied the colour of the drawstrings in its
hoodies, the writing on its buttons, the colour of the stripes on
its Breton tops and the velvet ribbon detail on the pockets,
reports Horse and Hound. When contacted by Catalogue
e-business
, Joules declined to comment further, stating that
Joules was not yet “suing” Musto and that talks were
in “very early stages”. Musto says it “defends the
allegations vigorously”.

Amazon is said to be recruiting Spanish-speaking
managers ahead of the launch of its Spanish ecommerce website,
reports the Financial Times.

As part of a company-wide rebranding, apparel retailer
Crew Clothing has relaunched its website. The
new site includes more interactive features such as customer
feedback and reviews and a link to Crew’s Facebook page. As part
of the exercise, Crew will also revamp its catalogue and stores
in the coming months.

Revenues at confectionery retailer Thorntons
rose 4.8 percent to £133.5 million in the half-year to 8th
January. However, pretax profit slumped 8.5 percent to £8.3
million due to the adverse weather conditions pre-Christmas and
the resulting supply-chain disruption. In the weeks since 8th
January, trading has been “challenging”, with
Thorntons’ stores underperforming.

Private-equity firm LDC has taken the majority stake in
Kee Safety, a supplier of components and safety
systems for railings, barriers, and roof-edge protection. Kee
Safety employs approximately 180 staff and exports to over 35
countries. In addition to locations in the UK, the business also
operates overseas in the USA, Canada, Germany and France, and is
growing its presence in the UAE, Poland and China.
