Facing claims for payouts due to the disruption caused to
businesses during the postal strikes last year, Royal
Mail
is asking for compensation to be waived because of
“severe cash constraints”. The postal carrier is
liable to have to pay out “tens of millions of pounds to
businesses customers” reports the Telegraph, but says it should be exempt from
the payments “because it did its best to avoid the
strikes”.

“sponsoring” 25 winemakers to supply wines at almost
cost price. When asked why more winemakers aren’t on board,
founder Rowan Gormley says it’s a sense of misplaced loyalty and
not wanting to undercut local stockists–who may only sell a
fraction of the amount of bottles it can: “It’s kind of
honourable but kind of stupid.”

Ecommerce services provider Snow Valley has published its alternative to
the IMRG-Hitwise Hot Shops List. Based on turnover estimations,
Snow Valley names the UK’s top three online retailers as
Tesco, Amazon, and
Argos.

IT giant IBM is to buy web analytics firm
Coremetrics for an undisclosed sum. The
acquisition will enable IBM to build its presence in the
software-as-a-service sector. As part of the deal, Coremetrics’
approximately 230 employees will be integrated into IBM.
