  • Seeds and plants cataloguer Thompson &
    Morgan     has acquired plant-food manufacturer Chempak for
    an undisclosed sum.

  • It appears that most retailers absorbed the VAT hike in
    January, keeping shop-price inflation down last month. Stephen
    Robertson, director general of the British Retail Consortium ‘s
    director general, told the Independent that “January’s VAT increase
    was lost among a huge number of discounts and promotions.”
