Ocado has acquired a minority (18 per cent) stake in a start-up robotics company called Karakuri with an investment of £4.75 million.
Karakuri has developed a new automated food-to-go assembly solution which will enable retailers and restaurants to produce boxed meals which are personalised for individual customers. There is the capability to select from and aggregate up to 48 foods from installations in-store or in “dark kitchens”.
Ocado says it will take delivery of the first machines in Autumn/Winter 2019.
