Sainsbury’s has set its sights on developing an online marketplace for fashion brands that will compete with M&S and Next. It is reported as having approached Jigsaw, White Stuff and Yours Clothing with an offer of lower charges than its competitors’ levy.
The retailer has already built a significant clothing business with its own TU label which is sold both in-store and online and is considered likely to deliver substantial levels of traffic for online marketplace sellers.
