The business which operated Shearings, Coast & Country Hotels, Bay Hotels, National Holidays and Wallace Arnold Travel, amongst others, is now in administration. The group employs over 2400 people in the UK and had been hard by the impact of Covid-19. It had catered to a mature market with its offering of escorted coach holidays, river cruises and all inclusive hotel breaks. Its hotels which were principally in coastal resorts will not re-open and all scheduled holidays and tours have been cancelled. Most customers who had prepaid for holidays will have access to financial protection via ATOL, ABTA, Bonded Coach Holidays, or with their debit or credit card issuer
Joint administrators Sam Woodward and Colin Dempster of EY said: “The directors of the group have been in discussions with a number of parties, seeking a going concern buyer for the business. Unfortunately, despite interest in the group as a whole and in parts, no viable transaction structure was able to be agreed and, as a result, the group was placed into administration.”
