Superdry closes 78 stores

Superdry has closed 78 stores across Europe in response to the spread of Covid-19 and governments ordering closure of all but the most essential retailers. Shopper numbers in the UK and the USA have also fallen significantly as consumers opt not to take any more risks than they have to.

CEO Julian Dunkerton said: “Superdry is experiencing major disruption to business operations and recovery as we seek to protect staff and customers from Covid-19. The situation is very fluid and uncertain, and we are working to put in place additional financing to secure recovery.”

The business has warned that it may not meet targets and that online sales would not fully mitigate the drop in store sales.
