Gardening cataloguer Suttons Seeds is launching a new trial
ground, which is set to create seven jobs with the potential of
further staff being recruited during the height of the growing
season.
The land, formerly part of the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust
Occombe Farm estate in Paignton, is closer to the Suttons Seeds
head office than the previous site. The 9.43 acres of land will
provide the company with more space for new variety and growing
technique trialling as well as opportunities for putting on
events for the public and the press.
Surplus fruit and vegetables will be used at the Occombe Farm
caf, adding to the offer for visitors to taste locally grown
produce.
As part of the new initiative with Suttons, Occombe Farm will be
offering open days for allotment owners and members of the public
who want to learn more about growing their own produce.
