With a number of bidders in line to acquire the majority stake in Asda held by Walmart, plans to conclude a sale have been set aside as the UK supermarket chain copes with greatly increased demand generated by stockpiling customers. With 630 stores around the UK and a home delivery service operation, like other supermarket chains, Asda’s shelves have been stripped bare by consumers over the past few weeks causing sales to sky-rocket. It is being suggested that this increase in volume could well see Walmart’s stake, which had been valued at around £7 billion, attract higher bids.
