Amazon has moved to cut the frills from Whole Foods with its Kensington flagship bearing the brunt of the cost-cutting. The revered cheese room has been despatched as have many of the more upmarket lines carried by the store. Discounted products are being introduced whilst staff numbers have been slashed in favour of self-service checkouts as the business grapples to reduce its growing losses.
Revenues have fallen across its seven branches as even the better-heeled customers look to economise (in response to rising prices).
